A court has dealt President William Ruto a mighty blow after it blocking his 50 newly appointed Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs) from assuming office.

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and the Katiba Institute filed a petition opposing their appointment, and the case has to be determined before they proceed.

The High Court's Justice Hedwig Ong'udi also issued an interim order that bars the CASs from earning any salaries, remuneration, or benefits.

One petitioner named Eliud Karanja Matindi wanted the appointments of all the 50 CASs declared illegal.

However, the Attorney General Justin Muturi applied to have Ruto's name expunged from the lawsuit, citing an error in the use of the president's name in a personal capacity.

Last week on Thursday, Ruto released the list of 50 people he has nominated for appointment as CASs in various government ministries.

On Wednesday, the president appointed his nominees and on Thursday; he ignored his critics and presided over the swearing-in of the appointees at State House.
