Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has appealed to Azimio la Umoja party leader Raila Odinga to end the ongoing anti-government protests across the country.

Gachagua says the ongoing widespread chaos resulting from the Azimio demonstrations are bad for the Kenyan economy and that all Kenyans should be allowed to return to work.

According to the DP, the ongoing demos were posed a big threat to the many Kenyan businesses that have been forced to shut down and the country’s economy in the overall.

He was speaking in Mombasa while flagging off food donations received from Ukraine that are slated to be distributed to various counties grappling with drought and food insecurity.

“I want to appeal to these people, to consider, this afternoon, to call off the chaos, the mayhem, the intimidation, because what they are doing is destroying the economy,” said Gachagua.

He sought to assure Kenyans that the President William Ruto government would do everything within its power to protect their lives and property in all parts of the country.

“I want to assure the people of Kenya that the country is stable, President William Ruto is in charge of the country and I want to say that the situation we are facing today in Nairobi, Life goes on, that’s why we are here. Many Kenyans are going about their lives,” he said.

According to the DP, no life has been lost in the ugly confrontations between anti-government protesters witnessed in Nairobi, Kisumu and other parts of the country.

“As a result, this morning, because of lack of business in the CBD, the country has lost almost Sh2 billion in terms of business. And that is money that should have been circulating in the economy,” the DP said.

This comes as Raila went ahead with his threat to lead anti-government demos in Nairobi and other parts of the country terming the President Ruto administration illegitimate and accusing it of paying lip service to the high cost of living.
