Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was on Tuesday charged in a Kiambu court where he denied all the 12 charges brought against him by the state.
The charges against Sonko include robbery with violence, assault and destruction of property after he allegedly forced his entry into a private property at Buru Buru estate, Nairobi in 2019.
The ousted governor is accused of assaulting Alex Kioko and causing him bodily harm, and together with others not before court, assaulting Musyoki Kavunda and John Mungai Wanjiru.
Sonko was presented before Kiambu senior principal magistrate Stella Ataambo after spending Monday night in cells at the Gigiri Police Station.
Prosecution is seeking orders to detain Sonko until police probe concludes, take him to a Mombasa court where he has an arrest warrant for a pending case and prevent him from accessing and threatening witnesses
