Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga and Wiper Party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka have vowed to stand by former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i if he is arrested.

Kalonzo vowed to defend Matiang’i if he is arrested while addressing Kisii residents who attended the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition’s People's Baraza rally.

The former Vice-President said that even though he seldom goes to court, he would this time to defend Matiang’i.

"I'm a lawyer but I rarely go to court having been vice president but one case that I will go to defend is when they arrest Matiang'i. I will be the first one to defend Matiang'i," Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo dismissed the alleged raid on Matiangi’s Karen home as mere propaganda.

The same sentiments were also echoed by Raila who also he would die for Matiang’i as he encouraged him not to flinch.

Raila claimed President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration intends to return Kenya to the dark days of autocracy.

“I have told Matiang'i to stand firm. I will die for him. We don't want them to return the country to autocracy,” Raila said.

Also present during the rally was the former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa who alleged Ruto was after Matiang’i because he allegedly edged him out of his usefulness during the last phase of former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure.

Wamalwa also said he was aware Ruto’s administration would go after them and assured their supporters they were not intimidated.
