The Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni-led faction of the party has obtained a court order restraining the Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu from effecting changes in the party’s top leadership pending the hearing and determination of the matter.

The order comes after Kioni and the Jubilee Party’s Vice Chairperson David Murathe filed a Notice of Motion Application on Tuesday .

“THIS MATTER coming up before Hon. Desma Nungo, Chairperson, PPDT on 16th February 2023 for directions on the Notice of Motion Application dated 14th February 2023 filed under Certificate of Urgency AND UPON PERUSAL of the subject Notice of Motion Application together with the Supporting Affidavits sworn by DAVID MURATHE and JEREMIAH KIONI and the annexures filed electronically by the Complainants/Applicants AND in the absence of the Complainants/Applicants and the Respondent and Interested Party or their Counsel; IT IS HEREBY ORDERED:” the court document read.

The Chairperson of the political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) Desma Nungo ordered issued the interim conservatory orders staying the decision by the Jubilee National Executive Committee (NEC and the Office of the Registrar of Persons until the court determines the meeting of the NEC meeting was constitutional.

The order further barred the Registrar of Political parties from effecting, adopting or ratifying the decision of the Jubilee NEC.

“THAT pending inter partes hearing and determination of the application, interim conservatory orders are hereby issued staying the Respondent's decision communicated vide the letter dated 13th February 2023 to the effect that the (Jubilee Party NEC) meeting (held on 10th February 2023) was properly convened per the party constitution and further staying any consequential action by the Respondent towards effecting, adopting or ratifying the resolutions of the subject meeting,” the court order read.


Following the PPDT fresh orders, Kioni remains the Secretary General of Jubilee Party, and  Murathe remains the Vice Chairman.

Jubilee Party Chairman on Nelson Dzuya last announced the dismissal of Kioni as Secretary General and Murathe as Vice Chairman last Friday following a Jubilee Party Parliamentary Group meeting held in Nakuru on the same day.

Dzuya cited laxity and misconduct and the cause for the dismissal of the two and the party’s National Treasurer Kagwe Gichohi.

The Jubilee Party PG resolved to replace Kioni with East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega.
