The identity of the mysterious woman who drowned together with a businessman after their vehicle plunged into the Titanic Dam in Juja, Kiambu County, has finally been disclosed.

She has been identified as 22-year-old Fridah Warau Kamuyu, who hails from Mathioya in Murang’a County and her body had been lying at City Mortuary since the January 8 incident.

The body is said to have been positively identified by her relatives on Thursday after their long and frantic search for Fridah led them to the City Mortuary in Nairobi County.

Fridah drowned after the car she was in together with 39-year-old Tirus Maina Gikonyo drove under unclear circumstances and plunged into the dam at the popular park-and-chill location.

The two are said to have been spending some time inside a Nisaan X-Trail vehicle on that fateful day before tragedy struck at around 9pm with police still investigating the matter.

Tirus was the first to be identified after the car was recovered from the dam despite Fridah’s body being retrieved first since she reportedly tried to swim to safety but was unsuccessful.

Police were initially unable to identify her given no form of identification was found in her person when her body was retrieved and appealed to anyone who knew her to come forth.

Speaking a day after the tragedy, Tirus' wife Margaret had said she was probably his business partner given her spouse had indicated he was in a meeting in their last phone call.

This comes as Tirus is scheduled to be laid to rest on Friday as Fridah’s family commences funeral arrangements following her positive identification on Thursday.
