Lesedi Developers Limited founder and director Geoffrey Kiragu has come out to defend himself against accusations that he swindled investors up to Sh1 billion in alleged fake land dealings.
Kiragu terms “unfounded and unjust” the allegations being made against his land buying and selling company by hundreds of investors who accuse the firm of selling them “air.”
He indicated that Lesedi was working to fulfil its clients’ rights to own property even as he acknowledged that the company was facing challenges in meeting their expectations.
Kiragu termed as “ridiculous” the Sh1 billion the firm is being said to have conned clients as he fought off a barrage of accusations against Lesedi, which has been trending for days now.
“The accusations being made against us are not only unfounded but also an injustice to our company's reputation. Real estate is a business that provides opportunities for investors to own property. Like all other ventures, there are evolving difficulties,” read the statement in part.
The statement continued, “The allegations of scamming and conning people are ridiculous and completely untrue. We procure land and have overheads.”
The director has affirmed, in the statement, that Lesedi is committed to eventually deliver to its clients under the “right environment” even as the said clients demanded refunds.
“We are truly sorry,” added Kiragu in the statement.
He added, “We have always been dedicated to delivery and we will continue to do so.”
This comes as some top celebrities from Central Kenya, who were being used to popularise his firm’s land and housing projects started distancing themselves from its undertakings.
For example, popular Kikuyu gospel singer Muigai Wa Njoroge indicated that he would join the affected Kenyans in demanding justice for his followers who bought land from Lesedi.
“No matter how much I was paid by any company or individual to market or advertise something on their behalf and they fail to honour the agreement with their customers, I will rise to demand justice for my followers who through me trusted the company,” Muigai said.
Karangu Muraya has also vowed to stand with the investors in Lesedi to ensure they get what they paid for.
"I personally has called Mr Kahungi Kirago the MD and we are preparing a meeting with all investors who their title deeds have been delayed and and all Influencers so that no investors will loose his or her sweat through our platforms," he posted on Facebook.
Kiragu, who is reported to be out of the country, is being accused of defrauding hundreds of Kenyans who made huge payments to buy land from his Lesedi Developers company.
The company has been aggressively marketing parcels of land located in Kiambu and Machakos Counties and even hired top celebrities and influencers as their ambassadors.
