The Kenya African National Union (KANU) party leader Gideon Moi has suspended the party’s Secretary General Nick Salat from the party for thirty days.

Moi announced the party’s National Executive Committee’s decision to suspend Salat via a statement issued on Thursday.


According to the statement, Salat was suspended following several complaints about his conduct and violation of the party’s constitution.

"This is to notify you that at the National Executive Committee meeting on December 15, several complaints on your conduct and violation of the party Constitution were placed before the members for discussion," the statement read in part.

"You are hereby suspended forthwith from carrying out and or performing your duties as the party's Secretary General pending the determination of the disciplinary proceedings.”

Salat’s suspension came barely 24 hours after he called for fresh national party elections to change its leadership.

He said the move would make KANU dynamic again and was not targeting anyone.

"Nobody is directly targeted. We just want to transform the party and make it dynamic yet again. The fact is we are not doing well at the moment," Salat said.

Before the national party elections, Salat hinted at conducting a nationwide recruitment drive.


He also voiced his concern over the party’s current status warning about stagnation if change does not come.

“We are not doing well at the moment, and that is a fact. We need change. Otherwise, we're not going anywhere,” Salat said.
