President William Ruto has added his voice to the debate concerning nightclubs operating in residential areas within Nairobi City County.

Ruto during the opening ceremony of the Twiga Goods distribution facility in Tatu City, Kiambu County assured Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja of his support in an effort to reduce noise pollution in residential areas.

This comes shortly after the Nairobi County Government announced the immediate ban on nightclubs in residential areas within Nairobi in a statement issued on Friday.

Ruto told Sakaja that he has their support in keeping the noise away from children within the city.

"I want to tell my young brother Sakaja of Nairobi, please keep the noise away from our children. You have our support," Ruto said.

“I have discussed this with you before and you have my support in ensuring that we reorganise this city, make it work for all the residents and ensure the standards of Nairobi are that of the capital city of Kenya.”

Acting Nairobi City County Secretary and Head of Public Service Jairus Musumba issued a statement on Friday announcing that it has revoked all licences immediately and instructed that the establishment that had already been issued with licenses may only operate as bars and restaurants.

In the notice, bars and restaurants in residential were given strict instructions to operate within the allowed time and the playing of music must stop by 10:00 pm.
