Fake doctor James Mugo Ndichu alias Mugo wa Wairimu has been sentenced to 29 years in prison by a Nairobi court.

This is after he was convicted of unlawfully administering drugs to patients at his clinics in Githurai and Zimmerman estates in Nairobi before raping them back in 2015.

Milimani Chief Magistrate Wendy Micheni found Mugo guilty of 10 out of the 12 counts he was charged with and handed him the sentence.

While sentencing Mugo, Micheni considered all the mitigations and the gravity of the offences he had committed.

Micheni also noted that Mugo had endangered the lives of the female patients attending his clinics, which surpassed his need to reenter the society.

"I have considered the accused persons need to be back to the society but he endangered the female patients and would administer to them drugs and rape them. He made himself a gynaecologist," Micheni said.

Mugo expressed his remorse, saying he followed that career path to serve the community and pleaded for a lenient sentence.

"I regret that what I started as a noble ambition took me to where I am. I pray for a lenient sentence that will allow me to join my family and continue serving my community as a citizen," Mugo said.

However, the magistrate opined that Mugo was a danger to the society, especially to women hence needed to be kept away behind bars.

Apart from the 29-year prison sentence, Mugo was handed, he is also serving another 11-year sentence for operating a chain of unlicensed medical facilities in the country.
