The Government of Kenya will unveil a task force to review the terms and conditions of police officers in the next two weeks.

This is according to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who spoke at the Holy Family Basilica where he was the chief guest in a thanksgiving ceremony for the disciplined services.

The task force will look into the welfare of the police officers across the ranks, from police constables to the Inspector General of Police.

Gachagua said the task force would look into the issues of salaries, allowances, uniforms and housing, which have bedevilled police officers for a long time.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the working conditions of police officers.

While noting the immense responsibilities the police are shouldering, Gachagua urged the police to desist from taking unlawful orders from their superiors and to uphold the rule of law and the Constitution of the country.

“I urge all police officers to get guidance from the Service Standing Orders on how they should conduct their duties and any unlawful order from their superiors should be accompanied by a written note,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua reminded the police that the materials the government provides for them are for protecting lives and property and not for harming any.

While speaking during the same event, the new Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki warned criminals that their days were numbered.

Kithure said the government would take stern action against anyone curtailing the lives of other Kenyans.
