President William Ruto’s nominee for the Agriculture Cabinet Secretary’s position Mithika Linturi has disclosed he has 35 pending cases in the courts.

Linturi revealed that detail on Friday during his vetting process by the National Assembly’s Commission on Appointments.

He was addressing concerns raised by Ugunja Member of Parliament Opiyo Wandayi over his integrity.

Linturi acknowledged he had many cases in court, but only one was a criminal case, which he also said had already been withdrawn.

“I am an open book in fact those who write and say a litany of cases is an understatement. As I am seated here today, I have 35 cases in court,” Linturi said.

However, Linturi said the complainant in the attempted rape case had already applied to withdraw the case.

"The only criminal case that I had in court is the case between the republic and I, where the complainant was Beryl. I was the complainant in this case because it was a case of abduction and is a case where people wanted to extort money from me.”

Linturi claimed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) falsely linked him to the sexual assault case because of politics.

He explained his reasons for dropping his complaint against the victim of sexual assault, citing his own mental peace and said he was ready to work for Kenyans.

"I have fought so many cases. I want to free my mind given the opportunity to work for this country. I must forget the pain and persecution that I have gone through. I have left to the conscience of all my persecutors and God to deal with them," he said.

Like the other nominees, Linturi also disclosed his net worth, which he said included various companies and investments in saccos which he estimates at about Sh1.2 billion.
