President William Ruto’s right-hand man and nominee for Energy Cabinet Secretary’s position Davis Chirchir disclosed to the National Assembly’s Commission on Appointments that his net worth is estimated at Sh482.2 million.

Chirchir was among the nominees who were vetted on Tuesday by the commission.

He disclosed to the commission that part of his earnings came from his salary as a public servant and also from his Westlands rental property that he valued at Sh50 million.

Chirchir also said he has a house in Spring Valley, vehicles, money in the bank, and investments in a family business.

The commission put Chirchir on task to explain his source of earnings that almost doubled his boss’s salary.

While reacting to Robert Mbui’s query that required him to clarify how he earned an average amount of Sh2.05 million monthly between January 1, 2022, and August 9, 2022.

He said the figure he indicated on his wealth declaration form, which was Sh18.48 million encompassed all sources of income he had.

"In 2022, I earned Sh3 million between January and March from the sources and earned a salary for six months at a taxed net amount of about Sh764,000," he said.

According to Chirchir, the pay was in line with the wage recommended for the Chief of Staff in the Office of the Deputy President and revealed that a grant was the largest portion of his earnings.

"I utilised a car grant which is Sh10 million, which is currently available to that office. The breakdown explains the figure indicated," he said.
