Kenyans have been left with many questions after former Speaker Justin Muturi declared that he is worth Sh700 million, which is more than double the wealth he declared last year.

In a Twitter chat with his followers on November 18, 2021, Muturi said his net worth was Sh300 million accumulated from businesses financed by his salary from 36 years in the civil service, commercial property and bank loans.

"I am worth Approx.Ksh.300M most of my property was acquired through bank loans and civil servant remuneration for 36 years. I support a lifestyle audit on all leaders plus an explanation of how all their wealth was acquired and this should not be done in secret #ChatWithJBMuturi," he posted then.

But on Monday October 17, 2022, only 11 months later, he told the National Assembly Vetting Committee his net worth is now Sh700 million as he seeks to be Attorney General.

Muturi’s fresh revelations before the 15-member Parliamentary committee has sparked a debate on various platforms on how his wealth more than doubled in less than a year.

“I have been a very modest public servant and my net worth is currently estimated at just about Sh700 million. Currently from my activities as a farmer and through consultancies that I do from time to time, I get occasional rewards. Otherwise I am now a pensioner,” he told the MPs on Monday.

Based on a communication from National Assembly Clerk Sarah Kioko, the vetting exercise with run from Monday to Saturday October 22 but will exclude Mashujaa Day on Thursday.
