The National Police Service (NPS) has issued an official statement regarding the Friday morning shooting of a police officer attached to the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga’s wife Ida Odinga.

NPS issued the statement on Friday afternoon via its social media accounts confirming the incident and finally disclosing the identity of the assailant who initially was only known to be a club manager.

The police identified the shooter as Collins Okundi and also said that investigations into the cold-blooded murder are ongoing.

“The National Police Service confirms an incident that resulted in the death of a police officer who was shot dead in Kisumu in cold blood,” the statement read.

“The incident is under active investigations. The assailant, identified as Collins Okundi, and who’s on the run is being pursued.”

The police also confirmed that the suspect indeed robbed the deceased of his firearm and shot his company as well.

They alerted the members of the public that the suspect is armed and dangerous, as they appealed for any information that may lead to his arrest.

“He escaped with the killer firearm that he robbed from the slain officer. A second victim also shot by the assailant is in a local hospital receiving treatment,” NPS said.

“As we appeal for information to aid in his arrest, members of the public are equally cautioned to treat the suspect as armed and dangerous.,”

The Okundi is said to have picked a quarrel with deceased Barack Onyango Oduor who was in the company of two other people on Friday morning before disarming him and shooting him twice in the head and leg before fleeing the scene.

A preliminary police report pointed out that the woman in Oduor’s company could have caused the problem.
