Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has promised that the Kenya Kwanza administration will revert the country's economy to the times of the late retired President Mwai Kibaki.

Gachagua was speaking during an Education Reforms meeting in Karen on Wednesday.

He appealed for more patience from Kenyans as their administration with President William Ruto works out ways to improve the country’s economy.

He reiterated his inauguration day remarks that they inherited a limping economy from former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ruto’s administration.

“We have inherited a dilapidated economy and we have work to do to turn around the economy of this country. We will be calling upon all of you to bear with us because it is not easy,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua also said the government is having trouble raising money to support government programs as the money in the treasury is being used for salaries and settling public debts.

He assured Kenyans that there were many measures being undertaken to change the current situation and asked Kenyans to remain hopeful

“There are many measures that will be taken to address the situation, but I want to give you hope,” he said.

While promising that their administration will return the Kenyan economy to the revered days of the late Kibaki, Gachauga said they held a meeting with the taxman and agreed to collect Sh3 trillion this year to fund the government’s development budget.

He pledged they will turn around the economy of the country within two years.

“In the fullness of time, we will turn around the economy of this country, first and foremost in the first two years God willingly, to return Kenya where President Mwai Kibaki left us and progressively turn around the economy to improve the quality of lives,” the deputy president said.

The Kenya Kwanza Alliance administration during their campaigns promised to bring a momentous change to the country’s economy and bring down the cost of living.

However, Kenyans have noted that the situation is getting worse as they are at pains trying to afford basic commodities.

Ruto’s administration has assured its citizens that things will ease over time as they are working to fix the economy.
