Joe Biden, born Joseph Robinette Biden Jr, was on Wednesday sworn in to become the 46th president of the United States of America.
Biden took the oath of office outside the Capitol in a ceremony attended by a few VIP and devoid of the crowds that usually line the streets and don the inauguration ceremony.
In his inaugural speech, the new commander in chief promised to unite Americans across the political divide and asked those who did not elect him to give him a fair chance to lead them.
"My whole soul is in this: bringing America together...and I ask every American to join me in this cause," Biden said.
Biden assured Americans that he would do all in his power to fight and eradicate Covid-19 pandemic that continues to thump the country leaving hundreds of thousands of people dead.
“We must set aside politics and finally face this pandemic as one nation. We will get through this together,” the new US president added.
Earlier, Kamala Harris was also sworn in as Vice President of the US, becoming the first woman, first black woman and first person of South Asian heritage to hold the critical powerful post.

During the much-awaited ceremony, US superstar Lady Gaga sang the US national anthem followed by a song performed by American Latino superstar Jennifer Lopez.

Country superstar Garth Brooks, who is one of the world's best-selling music artists and has performed for every US president since Jimmy Carter, except Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump, sang Amazing Grace.

The inauguration was skipped by Donald Trump, who chose to fly out from White House to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, which will become his permanent residence after he failed to clinch his re-election bid in the November 2020 election.
