North Eastern Deputy Regional Police Commander Patrick King'ori Macharia’s 13-year-old son died after allegedly shooting himself with his father’s pistol.

The bizarre incident happened at their home in the Chereni area, off Kangundo road, in Nairobi.

The case was reported at Mawe Mbili police station in Njiru Sub-county.

According to the police report, Macharia excused himself briefly to use the restroom and left his firearm, a Jericho pistol S/no. 44330995 on the couch.

Moments later, while speaking with his wife, they heard a gunshot from their son’s bedroom.

However, when they responded to the loud bang, they found the door locked from the inside, forcing them to break in.

Unfortunately, they were met with the ghastly sight of their son dead.

“The room was locked from inside, he with the help of his wife broke into their son’s bedroom. They found their son Samson Kariuki King’ori aged 13 years and a student at Elite Academy-Shujaa to have shot himself on the left side of the head with one round which exited on the right side of the head, the police report said.

Crime scene investigators processed the scene of the incident and seized the pistol with 29 rounds of ammunition and a spent cartridge for forensic ballistics.

The body of the deceased was moved to Kenyatta University Mortuary pending further investigation.

This incident comes five months after another similar incident involving the former nominated MP David Sankok’s 15-year-old son who also allegedly shot himself using his father’s firearm.
