Kasarani stadium was filled to capacity by 5am on Tuesday as Kenyans thronged the venue to witness the swearing in of Dr William Ruto as the 5th president of the republic of Kenya.

The gates of the 60,000-capacity venue in Nairobi were opened to the public from as early as 4am with the thousands who had travelled from various destinations making their way in.

Police Spokesperson Bruno Isohi Shioso, in statement in the morning, urged those who had not arrived at the venue to seek alternative places to watch the proceedings at Kasarani.

“In anticipation of being part of history, Kenyans have thronged to the venue in large numbers. As by 5.00 am this morning, the venue had already filled to capacity, as more people continue to troop to the venue,” said Bruno.

He added: “To avoid logistical challenges, this is to request the public to make alternative arrangements to view the proceedings, especially from the comfort of their homes.”

Kenya Kwanza coalition had appealed to their supporters to turn up in large numbers at Kasarani to witness the historic peaceful handover of power from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
