The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has dismissed claims by the petitioners challenging President-elect William Ruto's win in the recent presidential election that the IEBC system was compromised and the presidential election results altered.

While responding to the petitioners, IEBC lawyer Eric Gumbo termed the claims by the petitioner; Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga that some forms 34A were uploaded in favour of President-elect William Ruto as laughable.

Gumbo challenged Raila to prove his claim by presenting evidence supporting his claim.

He insisted that all the forms were made with security features which can be matched with the physical and the network is protected by firewalls.

The lawyer also said that the forms had 8 identified security features which include watermarks and UV potential which made it impossible to tamper with the original documents.

“The entire network through which election results are transmitted is secured with double firewalls… for somebody to intercept, they must have information on voter turnout of that day of every polling station,” Gumbo said.

He also said that by the time the physical forms were presented at the National Tallying Centre, their images had already been uploaded to the IEBC portal and verified by the agents.

Gumbo said the petitioners could not blame anyone for their choice of agents.

“Agents are like our spouses. You choose your own. You choose the one you trust and if you choose one that you don’t trust, then you can’t blame anyone, if you choose one who doesn’t understand why you assigned them that responsibility, then you can’t blame anyone,”  the lawyer said.
