The former and last President of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev is dead.
Gorbachev died at the Central Clinical Hospital in Moscow on Tuesday, at the age of 91.
According to sources privy to him, Gorbachev died after a severe and prolonged illness.
Since 2020, Gorbachev was under the continuous supervision of his doctors
Gorbachev was the President of the Soviet Union from 1985 until its collapse in 1991.
During his tenure, Gorbachev opened up the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) to the entire world and introduces reforms at home.
He will also be remembered for bringing the Cold War to a peaceful end.
Gorbachev will be buried in Moscow’s Novodevichy Cemetery next to his wife Raisa, who died in 1999, according to his will and family wishes.
