An Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) clerk who worked in Kieni West Constituency in Nyeri was charged with violating electoral laws.

The suspect identified as Pamela Wangui was charged under the Election Offences Act with giving a voter excess ballot papers on election day.

Wangui while working at Kihuhiro Primary School polling station issued one John Maina with five stamped ballot papers and an extra one for the parliamentary seat.

Maina appeared together with Wangui before Senior Principal Magistrate James Macharia on Wednesday.

On that material day, Wangui and Maina were arrested following an alarm raised by the presiding officer of the station after noting that a voter took too long at the polling booth.

They were booked in at the Endarasha police station from where they were later released on a Sh15,000 cash bail each.

Macharia released Wangui and Maina on a Sh100,000 cash bail after their lawyer Loise Wamaitha requested the court to release them on an affordable cash bail since they were not flight risks.

Their case will continue on September 12, 2022.
