The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga has challenged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner Wafula Chebukati to disqualify himself from presiding over the elections scheduled for Monday.

Raila said that in Mombasa on Wednesday, where he led the Azimio coalition team in drumming up support for Mombasa gubernatorial candidate Abdulswamad Nassir.

"He should disqualify himself from presiding over Mombasa and Kakamega polls," Raila said.

Mombasa county is among the eight areas in which the elections were postponed over a mixup of ballot papers.

Raila accused Chebukati of presiding over a flawed electoral process during the August election.

He asked Chebukati to step aside and allow his vice chairperson Juliana Cherera to oversee next the forthcoming elections.

“We are saying that the Mombasa and Kakamega elections will be held under the supervision of IEBC Vice-chairperson Juliana Cherera. As an accused person, Chebukati should disqualify himself from the process and allow impartial people to take charge,” Raila said.

Cherera led four other commissioners in disowning the presidential election results that Chebukati announced on Monday last week.

Raila told the Mombasa residents elections were postponed in their area and Kakamega because their opponents in the President-elect William Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza Alliance were afraid of defeat.

He expressed his confidence in Azimio winning the elections despite the postponement of the elections.

"I have decided to come here to see you face to face due to the injustices inflicted upon you and Kakamega people. They decided to postpone the polls in the two counties because they were scared. But no matter how many times they postpone we will still win," the former prime minister said.

Raila also said they were dealing with corrupt opponents who staged the rigging long before the elections.

However, he said he was not sad nor was he shaken by anything as the truth shall come out eventually and appealed to Kenyans to be patient.

"Can't you see that I am not sad or shaken by anything? I know eventually, the truth shall be known. Martha Karua and I have seen a lot of injustice. We are dealing with very corrupt opponents who had planned to rig a long time ago. The truth shall set the Kenyan nation free. Please be patient," he assured.

Raila and his Azimio team filed a petition at the Supreme Court challenging the presidential election results that were announced by Chebuakati.
