A diplomatic mission from the United States of America arrived in Kenya on Wednesday for a series of activities that include meeting President Uhuru Kenyatta, President-elect William Ruto and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga.

The US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman received the delegation led by Senator Chris Coons at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The delegation is on its third stop of an African tour that will see them visit five African countries.

According to Whitman’s tweet, the delegation will discuss shared goals between the two countries on matters of health, security and economic prosperity, among others.

"The delegation is also scheduled to meet with President Kenyatta, William Ruto and Raila Odinga to discuss goals on health, security, and economic prosperity," Whitman tweeted.

Coons and his team are also expected to meet health providers, conservationists and girl child empowerment organisations.

The visit comes despite the US government's hesitation to congratulate Ruto on his presidential win.
