Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi has retained the seat after thrashing his learned friend Nelson Havi.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared Tim the winner in the  Westlands parliamentary race that attracted 10 contenders.,

Wanyonyi who defended his seat on an ODM ticket garnered 58,400 votes in the Tuesday polls while the former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President came in a distant second after receiving 19,500 votes on a UDA ticket.


Wanyonyi thanked Westlands residents for their support and the commission for conducting a peaceful poll.

He suggested that the voting process should be split in such a way that the presidential, parliamentary and country elections are conducted separately for efficiency.

"The only thing I believe we must do as a country is to find a way to split this voting process because six elections in one day is too much. We can have a presidential and the parliamentary and county elections separately. That would be more efficient," Wanyonyi said.

Havi had earlier conceded defeat through his social media and congratulated Tim for his win.

“We are the minority in the contest for Westlands. The majority chose Timothy Wanyonyi. They duly deserve him in their wisdom or lack of it. On our part, we are contented with the outcome. Congratulations to you my elder brother, Tim Wanyonyi. Serve well,” Havi wrote.
