Kenyan 3000m steeplechase world record holder Jackline Chepkoech has won the 3000m Steeplechase gold at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham to bag Kenya its second gold medal in the games.


Chepkoech, the outgoing world under 20 champion in the water and barrier race, clinched the first position after clocking 9:15.68.

Elizabeth Bird of Britain took silver in the second position at 9:17.79 while Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai bagged the bronze in 9:23.24.


Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala won Kenya’s first gold in the Commonwealth Games after beating the defending Champion Akani Simbine of South Africa when he won the 100m title.
