President Uhuru Kenyatta has bashed his rebellious deputy William Ruto and his allies who have been pushing the narrative of hustlers vs dynasties as he seeks the presidency in 2022.

Kenyatta said all past presidents earned their way into State House and told those bashing ‘prominent Kenyan families’ in leadership that Kenya is a democracy and all leaders are elected.

“Leadership positions are not awarded, leaders are chosen by Kenyans. If you say you are tired, you’re free to seek the mandate from the people, let us respect each other as it is the only way to build a strong country,” Kenyatta said.

He said that if the same principle was to be applied then Kenya’s next president should come from other ethnic communities as State House has been occupied by presidents from only the Kikuyu and Kalenjin communities since independence.

Kenyatta was speaking at the burial of ANC Party Leader Musalia Mudavadi’s mother Hannah Mudavadi at Mululu village in Vihiga County Saturday where he dismissed the hustler vs dynasty politics being spearheaded by Ruto.

He also downplayed a controversial letter by Senate Chief Whip Irungu Kang’ata warning him that the Building Bridges Initiative referendum faced total rejection in his Mt Kenya backyard.

He further warned rebel leaders in his own Jubilee Party who are undermining his presidency not to take his kindness for weakness as many got elected by riding in his name in 2017.

Speaking at the same function, ODM Leader Raila Odinga also trashed Ruto’s hustler vs dynasty narrative as Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, Siaya Senator James Orengo and COTU boss Francis Atwoli challenged Kenyatta to crack the whip on errant leaders in his party.

Ruto, who has attended several prominent funerals in the last few weeks, gave the burial of Mudavadi's mother a wide berth.
