Raila Odinga has received yet another boost after the Usawa Kwa Wote Party leader Mwangi Wa Iria announced he has officially joined the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition.

Wa Iria announced he has joined the Azimio coalition on Tuesday at a presser held at the Nairobi Serena Hotel.

He said Raila agreed to infuse his party’s manifesto with the Azimio manifesto.

Wa Iria also pledged to support the Azimio flag bearer Raila’s candidature for the presidency.

"I told Raila that if we combined his Sh6,000 pledge and my cow programme, then we will take Kenyan families above the poverty line. I told him that those have to be in our joint manifesto and we did a deal. He stated that will happen," Wa Iria said.

"Through that joined manifesto, Usawa Kwa Wote will support the candidature of Raila. My supporters will now rally behind Raila Odinga.”

The outgoing Murang’a governor revealed that of all the presidential candidates, it was only Rail who reached out to him acknowledging an injustice was committed against him when the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) locked him out of the presidential race.

He also disclosed that they engaged with Raila in a three-hour meeting which culminated in him joining the Azimio faction.

"Raila Odinga engaged me in a 3-hour discussion and we talked man to man with mzee. He was the only person who admitted to me that injustice was committed," Wa Iria said.

Wa Iria also hinted he would be part of Raila’s cabinet if the Azimio coalition wins the August election and appealed to Murang’a residents to help him in backing Raila for the country’s top seat.

"If I get to the Cabinet, I will implement all the programmes because I have the knowledge. The people of Murang'a should therefore rally behind me and we shall demand that Raila gives me a cabinet position,” he said.

Wa Iria also took a swipe at the Kenya Kwanza Alliance and its leadership in the Mount Kenya region namely Deputy President William Ruto’s running mate Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua accusing him of disregarding grassroot leadership and undermining him in the region.

"Usawa Kwa Wote will support the candidacy of Raila Odinga. The rest schemed against me. I am the de facto leader of Murang'a County," he said.

Wa Iria, with a group of his supporter, caused drama at the Bomas of Kenya when they obstructed the entrance to the place after the IEBC locked him out of the presidential race.

He demanded that the IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati, come out and address them, explaining why they were locked out of the August election yet they complied with all the requirements.
