A woman is in police custody after she allegedly stabbed her husband to death inside a bar in Homa Bay following a row over text messages on the deceased's phone.

Homa Bay Police Sub-county Police Commander Sammy Koskei confirmed the unfortunate incident and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

"The suspect is in custody as investigators look into what led to their disagreement," Koskei said.

Sources privy to the incident said the couple had been drinking before the woman demanded to have the man identified as Charles Onyango's mobile phone intending to read his messages.

However, Onyango declined to surrender his phone sparking a heated argument with his wife that quickly escalated into a quarrel that caught the attention of other revellers at the joint.

Things took a drastic turn when the woman fished a knife from her handbag and stabbed Onyango in the chest.

According to the Homa Bay town location Chief Joshua Ochogo, the suspect collapsed before succumbing to his injury.

Ochogo intimated the couple was acting under the influence of alcohol.

"They were drunk and their actions were controlled by alcohol," Ochogo said.

Onyango's body was moved to the Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary.
