Kajiado Senator Philip Mpaayei has ditched Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA party and joined Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition.

Mpaayei defected on Wednesday and was introduced into the party by Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku.

The senator claimed he was maltreated at UDA and alleged he was rigged out of the party during the primaries.

"The reality has now dawned on me. UDA craftily rigged me out and replaced me with a weak candidate who will be floored by Azimio candidate," Mpaayei.

Mpaayei also said Kenya Kwanza Alliance does not recognise democracy and the will of people and is a den of political conmanship.

“Kenya Kwanza coalition is a den of political conmanship that does not recognize democracy and the will of the people. The team is an affiliation of selfish people who jeopardize justice and that was manifested through their rigging of the party primaries,” Mpaayei said.

The senator said that since he has joined the Azimio coalition, he will officially quit the UDA party and root for any Azimio-affiliated leaders.

"I now want to say that I have joined the Azimio la Umoja coalition. I officially quit the UDA party and I will not support any leader allied to it," Mpaayei said.

Mpaayei clinched the Kajiado senatorial seat on a Jubile ticket in 2007 and defected to UDA but lost in the party primaries.
