The Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has trained his guns on Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential candidate William Ruto over his recent attacks against officials of the same government he is working for.
While speaking during an Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition rally in Migori County on Thursday, Matiang’i said Ruto’s attacks were personal frustrations that resulted from failed business deals with the government.
Matiang’i revealed that Ruto’s recent salvos against the Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai stemmed from the IG’s refusal to agree to a deal that would have nourished the pockets of Ruto’s allies in the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
“This matter of Mutyambai being insulted for no reason and being told he is the most incompetent general, let me tell you the truth. It is because he refused to buy police boots for Sh13,000 a pair as your friends were selling and instead bought from local manufacturers for Sh2,900,” Matiang’i said.
The ‘problem’ with Mutyambai is the refusal to purchase bulletproof vests for Sh106,083 ($900) sold by your friends and moved directly to the manufacturers. That is the frustration that brings about the insults against our IG.

Matiang’i reprimanded Ruto for launching insults at public servants in front of foreigners and said he was not worthy of being a leader of this nation.
“If you want to be a national leader to lead our country, how do you attack public servants before foreigners? You take on our IG and insult him before foreigners who have come into our offices,” Matiang’i
Matiang’i was referring to the incident that happened on Thursday when Ruto termed Mutyambai incompetent while he was addressing a delegation of the International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI).
"The only concern from where we sit is the police. We do not doubt the capacity of the police to handle the situation, we doubt the command. We have the most incompetent IG in the whole world and that's the problem,” Ruto alleged.
That is not the first time Ruto and his allies are attacking members of the Internal Security ministry. Other members of Uhuru’s cabinet have not been spared either.
