The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has proposed that salaries and allowances of all civil servants to be automatically reviewed after a period of four years.
The proposal to the National Assembly if approved will see all public officers join other state officers such as the president in the review plan.
“The commission shall review and advise on remuneration and benefits for other public officers every four years,” read the proposal.
SRC has said it will review the salaries while cognizant of the applicable budgetary allocation and planning cycles.
“The commission shall undertake the review taking into account the applicable national budgeting and planning cycles," the proposal read in part.

Apart for the national budgeting and planning cycles, the commission said it will also push for the automatic salary review based on performance targets at various public offices.
The plan also seeks to fill in the gap in the salary review procedure in the public service which has no clear timeline at the moment.
Once approved, public servants such doctors, nurses, lecturers and teachers will also have their salaries reviewed after every four years just like the president and members of parliament.
