Police in Kirinyaga have arrested a 53-year-old man suspected of murdering his 75-year-old mother at Kiagiri Village in Mwea, Kirinyaga County.

Mwea-East police commander Daniel Kitavi confirmed the man identified as Ephantus Kiura Ndambiri was arrested on Tuesday night at a village in Mbeere, Embu County.

Ephantus is accused of murdering his mother Grace Muthoni Ndambiri on June 12, 2022, in her bathroom by bludgeoning her with a blunt before disappearing.

He is suspected to have killed his mother allegedly after she refused to give him some Sh6,000 he demanded.

Neighbours alarmed by the deceased’s SOS call rushed in to offer their help only to find her lifeless body in a pool of her own blood. They immediately alerted the police who went to the scene of the crime.

Police arrested Ephantus following a tip-off from a member of his family who stays in Mbeere.

According to Kitavi, Ephantus is currently being held in custody at the Wanguru Police station awaiting to be arraigned in court.
