President Uhuru Kenyatta has appealed to school heads to allow students who belong to the indigenous Akorino church to wear their religious turbans while in school.

Uhuru spoke when he attended the 100th anniversary of the Akorino church while accompanied by Azimio la Umoja One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga.


He said the Constitution guarantees all Kenyans the right to worship and the Akorino should be allowed to put on their religious attire just like Muslims and Sikhs do.

“I want to reiterate, more so to our school principals who are still discriminating the Akorino because of their turbans; that is not right. There is no law that bars anyone from identifying themselves by their religion,” the Head of State opined.


The conference held at Kasarani gymnasium was attended by thousands of Akorino church members as Uhuru rallied them to back Raila in the August poll which is only 50 days away.


During the event, the Head of State donated 10 million shillings to the popular church together with a parcel of land located in Naivasha worth 100 million shillings.


“Hii shamba nimewapa title mujenge kanisa itakuwa ya vizazi vijavyo,” said Uhuru.


On his part, Raila lauded the Akorino church and pledged that, if he is elected president in the August 9 election, he would continue supporting the church like Uhuru has done.


“Sisi tutaendelea kusimama na nyinyi. Walisema Baba hawezi panda mlima nikawaambia niko na tinga tinga na Martha pande hii; Inawezekana,” said an elated Raila.
