The Interior Permanent Secretary Karanja Kibicho has cautioned voters against electing leaders who have a corruption history.

Kibicho they will note tire of discouraging the public from electing corrupt leaders.

However, Kibicho emphasised they were not telling voters to elect a particular person, but rather advising them to check if any candidate has certain characteristics.

“We have not told the public to vote for a particular person. However, we have told them to look out for certain characteristics in a candidate, should they find those characteristics, they should not elect that person,” Kibicho said.

The PS said the leaders he is insinuating have been previously involved in graft and have come out to criticise him already.

He insisted he has named no one, but some leaders are getting jittery at the mention of thieves.

"It's the same thing if I'm in a crowd and I say "You're a thief", and one of us gets jumpy. If you get jumpy and I have not named anyone in particular, we know you're a thief," Kibicho said.

He added the leaders will keep on reacting to his warnings to the members of the public thus exposing themselves.

Kibicho’s assertions come just a few days after a section of politicians wrote to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The politicians were seeking the prosecution of Kibicho and six other cabinet secretaries, including Fred Matiang’i, Joe Mucheru, Eugene Wamalwa, Keriako Tobiko and James Macharia, for involvement in politics.
