The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party bigwigs held a political rally in Mukuru Kwa Njenga and Embakasi on Thursday.

Raila Odinga led his team, which had just received a major boost with the re-entry of Wiper party Kalonzo Musyoka into the Azimio coalition in drumming support for his presidential bid at Mukuru Kwa Reuben.

Raila and Kalonzo agreed to set their differences aside for the greater good of the country and gear up for a battle with their main opponents, the Kenya Kwanza Alliance ahead of the August general election.

In his opening remarks, Raila said their reunion was guaranteed to trounce the Deputy President William Ruto led alliance in the August election.

The former Prime Minister said that he significantly nominated Kalonzo for the Chief Minister’s position, a position similar to the one he held before during the coalition government he formed with the late, retired President Mwai Kibaki.

He added that since they have ironed out their differences and they became friends again like they used to be and they will finish what they started together.

“I nominated my brother Kalonzo with whom we have journeyed for a long time as the Chief Cabinet Secretary, a position similar to the prime minister’s that I once held and we have agreed he will continue with that role plus any other ministerial role,” Raila said.

“Now there’s no bad blood between Kalonzo and I. We are not friends like we used to be the other time and we will continue with the work that we had started.”

On his part, Kalonzo acknowledged the long-standing friendship between him and Raila, saying he had shelved his presidential ambition to throw his weight behind Raila and the Azimio coalition to ensure the victory of the formation in the August election.

Kalonzo jested that he had come back to play in position 11 after being given a break while referring to himself as legendary footballer Lionel Messi.

“I have come back to play in position 11. I am the Messi and we are on the last leg. I was just resting. ‘Baba’ had just put me on reserve. On this last leg, I will play for ‘Baba’ in position number 9 and he will score,” Kalonzo said.

The Wiper leader said that they will work together as they traverse the nation to drum up support for the Azimio coalition.

Kalonzo revealed he took a one-week prayer break to seek God’s direction on his political journey.

“I said at Jacaranda grounds that I will support Raila for the third time. I took a week’s break praying to God…I have decided our country is more important,” Kalonzo said.

"The government we shall form will hold on to the fundamental rights of Kenyan citizens, the right to proper housing, which is guaranteed under the constitution."

The other leaders from the Azimio coalition also attended the rally, including Gideon Moi, Charity Ngilu, Kivutha Kibwana, among others.
