The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has dismissed Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential candidate William Ruto’s claims that the names of voters have been expunged from the commission’s register.

IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati said assured Kenyans that no names are missing from the IEBC voter register as Ruto alleged.

Chebukati said that while interacting with the media at the Bomas of Kenya on Thursday when he clarified that the 1 million names Ruto claimed are missing are those of voters who applied for transfers to other regions.

He affirmed that there is no breach or any form of interference with the voter register maintenance systems and dismissed any other information, saying otherwise as rumours.

"Those spreading rumors that the data register has been lost be informed that it is intact. There is no breach or form of interference on the systems that we use to maintain the register," Chebukati said.

Chebukati also said the missing names could be because of degazetted polling stations, but gave assurance that every Kenyan who registered to vote will be accounted for.

He said IEBC has registered about 22.5 million voters and currently, KPMG is auditing the voter register.

"Commission assures Kenyans that the data is intact and the ongoing processes is just to ensure the register is clean in readiness for the elections," Chebukati said.

Chebukati said the final register will be certified and gazetted by June 9, 2022, and will be available for electorates to check out their detail until August 2, 2022.

The IEBC chairperson assured Kenyans of the transparency of the process, saying Kenyans will know if be able to know if they will vote in the August election.
