Police in Kirinyaga County arrested a 46-year-old man for strangling his lover to death.

The unfortunate incident took place on Tuesday night at their rented house.

Mwea East Sub-county Police Commander Anthony Mbogo confirmed the incident.

According to witness reports, the man identified as Simon Maina called his neighbours to alert them of the crime he had just committed before locking the deceased identified as Jackline Irungu in the house and fleeing the scene.

The neighbourhood residents revealed Maina, a local trader and married man with three children, was having an affair with Jackline before the incident.

It is highly suspected the two lovebirds were not really enjoying their relationship and that may have caused the murder.

Mbogo said Maina was later arrested in Ngurubani Town at around 10 pm and was taken to Wanguru Police Station where he is being held.

Police are still conducting investigations before arraigning him in court to face appropriate charges.

Jackline’s body was moved to Mwea Mission Hospital mortuary in Kariara.
