The mastermind of the act, John Wanyoike Kibungi 24, was nabbed from their hideout at Kirigiti in the wee hours of Sunday morning following a serious manhunt conducted by a combined team of detectives and Kiambu Police Station-based officers.

The detectives also arrested two accomplices of Kibungi named Kanaiya Kamau Njoroge and Brendan Mwaura Muchiri who helped Kibungi execute the heinous act and dispose of Wangechi’s body.

Wangechi’s body was discovered on Saturday morning by the roadside somewhere close to Mburiria Estate in Kiambu County. The body had visible stab wounds and strangulation marks.

Wangechi and Kibungi were involved in a romantic relationship before she discovered her sweetheart was a hoodlum and confronted him about the same, leading to discord in their relationship.

Unbeknownst to Wangechi, Kibungi was determined to do what it takes to conceal his alter ego of being a thug, including killing his love.

Wangechi left KIMC on Friday to meet Kibungi at Kirigiti to salvage what was left of their once enviable relationship

Little did she know she was also going to meet her death as she walked right into the trap set by Kibungi and his small team of henchmen.

The detectives recovered a kitchen knife concealed in his waistband, which was used in stabbing Wangechi during their early morning raid and also preserved the scene for forensic processing.

The three suspects were placed in police custody and will be arraigned in court for murder, which is contrary to Section 203, as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code.
