Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale faced an uphill task when he went to campaign for Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza in Shinyalu, Kakamega, on Saturday.

Khalwale was in the region to drum up support for his senatorial bid and his party leader Ruto.

The senator had attacked the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga, claiming he had failed the region.

Khalwale Raila did not remember the Western region when it came to the distribution of development projects after sealing the handshake deal with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He also alleged that Raila was given a huge budget allocation worth billions that he only took to the Nyanza region, forgetting the Western region.

Khalwale listed the Kisumu Port, Kisumu International Airport and the railway line as some of the projects that Raila accomplished as a result of the handshake.

A section of the crowd did not seem to dance to his tune and started heckling him.

“Ruto tawe! Ruto tawe!” which loosely translates to “Ruto No! Ruto No”

The jeers and heckles left Khalwale with no option but to cut his speech short because the crowd seem to have been agitated by his remarks.

Khalwale claimed Raila has been using the Western region for his own gains.
