The Governor for Kisumu County Anyang’ Nyong’o has ordered the repainting of buildings in Kisumu CBD and its environs ahead of the 9th AfriCities summit the city will host in May this year.
To make the endeavour a success, Nyong’o said he has held talks with paint suppliers in the city to give considerable discounts to the city residents who will purchase paint and related equipment from them.
He urged the businessmen to support the city in the refurbishment exercise.
“We are requesting all our businessmen and merchants to agree with us and support us in this refurbishing exercise of all shops,” Nyong’o said.
The governor also said they have formally asked everyone owning a building within Kisumu CBD and its environs to paint their buildings with specific colours.

“We have formally asked everyone owning a house in Kisumu CBD and the environs to paint them with lake blue colours and stripes of white as part of AfriCities preparedness,” the governor said.
Nyong’o said the facelift will not only improve the city’s aesthetics but also create a sense of uniformity. He said cities that have done the same are spectacularly beautiful.
The governor has ordered the painting of road kerbs in stripes of white.
At the same time, the county is also racing towards completing other pending projects before the summit commences.
The pending projects include the relocation of car washing points that have mushroomed along the roadsides and the clearance of pavements and other areas around Kisumu City.
Nyong’o said the county’s efforts to make the city beautiful have so far paid off as the city looks appealing and the flow of traffic had improved.
He thanked everyone for their support in transforming the city.
“Our past efforts to beautify the city have paid off. The streets are now neat and the city is experiencing an organised flow of traffic. I want to thank everyone, including the business community and all the residents, for supporting our transformative journey,” Governor Nyong’o said.
City management is strictly working on instructions to ensure all the major projects including the construction of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Complex, the famous Kibuye Market, Nyamasaria Bus Park, beautification of the airport corridor and the fire station are complete by May.
