Their style of robbery is getting rampant in the city lately.
The criminals usually sneak out PSV vehicles taken to garages for repairs and use them to masquerade as matatu operators and illegally ferry passengers at night.
After getting the passengers into their stolen vehicle and while headed to the purported destination, they rob the passengers of their belongings.
The matatus that are usually involved in this kind of robbery are commonly referred to as ‘Usiku Sacco’ because they are unroadworthy vehicles that operate without the required documentation and only come out at night when traffic police are not on the roads.
