Mama Ngina Kenyatta has appealed to voters from the Mount Kenya region to heed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s advice and support Azimio la Umoja flag-bearer, Raila Odinga.

She said Uhuru means well for the community and the entire country and he cannot lead them astray.

Mama Ngina affirmed Uhuru’s commitment to the future of Mount Kenya and wants nothing but the best for the region and that is the reason he decided to pick Raila as his successor.

She appealed to all Kenyans to love one another and drive the country forward while focusing on our destination. She emphasised a leader cannot mislead his people.

“Let us love each other, this is our country, let us drive things forward. Let us know where we are going, there is no way your leader can mislead you. Let me tell you, you must know that the person who is sited under a tree is the one who knows what the insects around there are eating," Mama Ngina said.

In her speech during the burial of her cousin, Mama Ngina cleared the air on the matter of perceived betrayal Deputy President William Ruto has been claiming Uhuru betrayed him.

She said Uhuru and Ruto were on very good terms and were working in tandem until Ruto absconded his duties and turned his attention to his presidential endeavours.

She hinted there was some disrespect from the deputy president which caused the rift between the two.

He didn’t have a problem, but if your deputy shows you disrespect, would you really stick there? You will move on," Mama Ngina posed.

Mama Ngina appealed to political leaders to reduce personal attacks on one another and embrace peace.

She urged Kenyans to maintain good morals and shun leaders who encourage them to be abusive.

According to Mama Ngina, there is a spate of insult trading among leaders, which is raising concerns. She noted that upbringing plays a big role in an adult’s life and only individuals who were brought up in an abusive manner turn out abusive.

“If you were not brought up being taught how to abuse others when growing up at home, even when you go to the public, you cannot be able to abuse others. So let me tell those who are going round abusing others, we will leave them alone if that is how they were taught to be abusive when they were growing up,” Mama Ngina noted.

Uhuru’s endorsement of Raila has been received with mixed reaction, with a major section of Kenyans lauding the move while the other section backing Ruto protesting it.
