The high cost of production has driven Bevalyne Kwamboka, who is popularly known as Kware ‘chipo mwitu’ girl out of business, at least for now.

Kwamboka announced that she suspended selling the roadside chips until further notice on Tuesday through her Twitter account.

“To all Chipo mwitu supporters, Due to increase in waru n cooking oil prices we have officially 'suspended' selling Chipo until further notice,” Kwamboka tweeted.

According to Kwamboka, the prices of potatoes and cooking oil have skyrocketed, therefore leading to losses in her business.

“Waru was 1200 now 3200Oil was 1200 now 2350 (10l)Profit ziko almost zero,” she added.

Kwamboka hinted she would turn to selling avocados and plantains for the time being.

Being a holder of a Degree in Education from Kenyatta University, Kwamboka also said she would tap into her profession by venturing into offering part-time tuition services to pupils most of whom are now on holiday.

“Let's focus on afkado n matoke and part-time pupils coaching,” she said.

The price of basic commodities is expected to rise sharply because of several reasons and one is the current war between Russia and Ukraine.

Russia is a major exporter to various markets around the world but has been slapped with sanctions, making it hard for the country to do business, which affects the consumer.
