ODM leader Raila Odinga has been endorsed as the Azimio la Umoja presidential flag-bearer ahead of the 2022 general election.
Raila was endorsed during an NDC event that was held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi.
Up to 30 political parties signed coalition pact including Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Party, Uhuru Kenyatta’s, Jubilee party, Raila’s ODM, Gideon Moi’s KANU and many others.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, Kalonzo Musyoka, Gideon Moi, Wafula Wamunyinyi, Alfred Mutua among other political leaders attended the ceremony.
While giving his acceptance speech, Raila expressed his gratitude for the endorsement and pledged that he will not fail those who will support his bid.
"I accept this nomination with absolute gratitude and dedication to our people, our country, and all the leaders who have endorsed this nomination. You have handed me a strong, unified and bold platform to stand on and an additional pair of hands to help steady the ship," Raila said.
He pledged to lead the war on corruption and his government will make corruption a thing of the past.
“I pledge to lead a war against corruption. We will make Kenya apply 3 don’ts on corruption. Don’t want, don’t do and don’t dare,” Raila said.
The Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate said Kenyans will regard each other as kin under his government and not as foes.
"Under my watch, Kenyans will regard each other as brothers, sisters and friends, not rivals and competitors. I need your support, I need your help. I will not fail you," Raila said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta said they came together as delegates from various parties to endorse Raila.
"Today we have come together as delegates from various parties and we have endorsed, unopposed, the person who will be the 5th president of the Republic of Kenya Raila Odinga," Uhuru declared.
Uhuru affirmed his trust in Raila's ability to move the country forward.
"I have no doubt, he has the capability, will and the Almighty God will bless him to ensure our nation of Kenya will move forward in terms of development, unity, the fight against corruption and to become a country that is respected in the entire world," Uhuru said.
After the endorsement ceremony, the party left for a joint Azimio la Umoja rally at the Jacaranda venue in Eastlands.
