KANU unveils ‘back to business’ manifesto, here are its 5 economic pillars

KANU has unveiled its party manifesto, dubbed ‘back to business manifesto for change'.

The party’s chairman Gideon Moi unveiled the manifesto on Wednesday at the Kabarnet Gardens in Nairobi.

The manifesto is based on five economic pillars namely devolution, social infrastructure, sustainable economy, green Kenya and citizen responsibility.

Gideon said KANU would bring services closer to the people as it takes advantage of devolution units such as wards as primary units of accelerated development.

The party promised to address quality, affordable and universal healthcare under social infrastructure.

"On social infrastructure, we will address quality, affordable and universal healthcare and establish universal health service under Maisha Care Program for curative health services,” KANU chairperson said.

Gideon said the party aims at building the economy from the grassroot in labour-intensive sectors.

"Under the sustainable economy, we envisage to enhance manufacturing by rebuilding the economy from the grassroots in labour-intensive sectors such as agriculture, livestock, and mining for job creation," Gideon said.

KANU also said it will have zero tolerance for corruption and will impose the capital sentence on corruption culprits.

“We will tackle corruption by ending theft of public resources by imposing death sentences for suspects convicted of economic crimes (Ufisadi ni Kifo),” the manifesto read.

According to the manifesto, KANU will ensure citizen responsibility and purposeful public service.

"We shall also ensure citizen responsibility, responsible citizenship and recreating a purposeful public service," Gideon said.
