Two police officers and a bank manager are nursing gunshot wounds after thugs stormed into Ushirika Bank in Kimilili, Bungoma County in broad daylight and made away with Sh25 million.

The incident happened on Tuesday at around 1:30 pm when the officers, Senor Sergent Boniface Hamisi and Constable Joseph Lomulen had escorted the cash to the bank. The money was supposed to pay coffee farmers.

The police report indicates that the criminals stormed into the bank and tackled down the officers before concentrating on the bank manager who has just received the cash and then took it all.

The criminals immobilised the police officers by shooting Hamisi in both legs and shooting Lomulen on his right knee. The bank manager also got shot on the left side of his stomach before the thugs made their brazen escape.

The three victims were later rushed to Kimilili Sub-county hospital for emergency treatment and stabilisation before being referred to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa led his constituents in protesting the recent spate of crime in the area.

He appealed to the Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai to reassign police officers who have stayed in the area for a long time to other regions.
