Pangani based police officers gunned down another gangster who had been terrorising residents of Mathare Valley on Tuesday evening.

The criminal who went by the name Fadhili took over the leadership of a criminal gang called ‘Katombi’ that has been terrorising the public in Huruma, Mathare and Pangani areas.

He took over after police shot and killed the ringleader of the gang called Ngaruiya after a shootout ensued when he was caught in the act of terrorising and robbing a member of the public in broad daylight.

Since then, Fadhili has been running the operations of the gang until yesterday when his 40th day had come.

Fadhili while going about his daily business of causing mayhem among residents of Mathare Mlango Kubwa spotted the police officers who were on their routine patrol of the area on foot.

The criminal who was atop a motorbike opened fire at the police officers as the motorbike sped off in the opposite direction.

Unluckily for him, one officer among those who were on patrol was a marksman and took him out with a clean shot on the back that sent him off the moving motorbike.

The other criminal who was riding the getaway motorbike was however lucky not to have caught a bullet and escaped albeit after crushing into a drum full of boiling local delicacy known as ‘Matumbo’ after losing control before speeding away.

Police recovered a loaded firearm with three rounds of ammunition from Fadhili.

This is the second high-ranking member of the criminal outfit has lost in a span of less than two months.

Starehe based detectives are appealing to the remaining members of the gang to surrender and pay for their crimes before a similar fate as Ngaruiya and Fadhili’s befall them.
