The Member of Parliament for Turkana South James Lomenen has ditched Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

Lomenen ditched UDA on Tuesday for the newly formed UPYA party.

The Treasury Cabinet Secretary and UPYA party leader Ukur Yatani welcomed Lomenen to the party at the party's headquarters in Nairobi.

Other political leaders from the North-Eastern region including Isiolo Senator Fatma Dulo, Wajir south Mohamed Sheikh, Former Garissa Governor Nathif Njama and Former Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi attended the meeting .

UPYA party is allied to Raila Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja movement and was formed in September.

Lomenen will vie for the Turkana County gubernatorial seat in the August general elections.

He will battle it out with Energy CS John Munyes who is also seeking to replace Governor Josphat Nanok whose term is coming to an end.
