Kenya and the United States of America have agreed to continue engaging Ethiopian conflicting parties.

This is aimed at seeing a quick resolution to the conflicts in the Horn of Africa country.

The agreement comes after a meeting at State House Nairobi between President Uhuru Kenyatta and US Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa David Satterfield.

The meeting emphasised that it is crucial for the Horn of Africa that Ethiopia realize peace.

Satterfield commended Uhuru for his committed efforts towards ending the conflict between the Federal Government of Ethiopia and the Tigrayan People’s Liberation Front (TPLF). He also appreciated Kenya’s efforts in the Horn of Africa.

“We believe that your role (in ending the Ethiopian conflict) was and remains extremely important. We appreciate the role Kenya has continued to play in the Horn of Africa region,” Satterfield said.

Satterfield said his government is looking forward to having Kenya’s support in Ethiopia as it does not want Kenyan’s efforts to go in vain.

“We do look to your help and support in Ethiopia. We do not want the work you have done in that country to go to waste,” Satterfield said.

Uhuru said Ethiopia was important to Kenya and that is the reason the country is committed to doing everything possible to resolve the conflict in Ethiopia.

“A strong Ethiopia is important to us. A stable Ethiopia is important to us. That is why we are committed to doing all we can to see the conflict resolved,” the President said.

During the meeting, Uhuru and his guest also discussed the peace and security situation in Sudan and Somalia.

The head of Public Service, Joseph Kinyua and Foreign Affairs CS Raychelle Omamo were among the senior government officials who attended the meeting.
